Package Protection

Package Protection

Straight answer first: Package Protection is not insurance. There is no insurer, no third party, and nobody adjudicating anything. It is my own promise to you, funded out of my own pocket, and I am the one who makes it good. If that promise ever isn't kept, you're dealing with me, not a call centre.

What it costs

2.5% of your order total, shown at checkout before you pay. It comes added by default at checkout — one click takes it off, and your order goes through either way. New York sales tax applies to the fee, the same as it does to the rest of your order.

When it's offered

Only on orders of $100 or more. Under that you won't see it anywhere — nothing to add, nothing to remove, nothing to think about — because the carrier's built-in $100 already covers the full value of an order that size if it goes missing in transit. If your cart crosses $100 it appears; if you edit it back under, it comes off again on its own. Everything in the free list below applies to every order at every price, protection or not.

What you already get for free, without it

I want you deciding with the full picture in front of you, so here is what's included on every order whether or not you add anything:

  • Carrier protection is built into the label. Standard UPS labels include $100. If a parcel is lost or damaged, I file with the carrier myself and pass through every dollar of that to you. You never deal with the carrier and you are never charged for the effort.
  • The Dr. Blaze Guarantee. Arrived damaged, or I sent the wrong item? Photos within 48 hours of delivery and I replace it, repack it, or refund it — at no cost, with or without Package Protection. That has never had an asterisk and it isn't getting one now.
  • Signature at my expense. Orders of $200+ ship with Signature Confirmation; $500+ with Adult Signature Required. I pay for that, not you.
  • Full declared value with the carrier on orders of $500 or more, purchased by me.

What Package Protection adds

Two things, and they're the two the list above doesn't reach:

  1. Lost in transit, above the carrier's built-in amount. If the carrier's trace confirms your package never arrived, I replace or refund the full value of your order — not just the first $100.
  2. Stolen after delivery. Tracking says delivered, the box isn't there. No carrier pays for this, ever. With Package Protection, I do.

How to use it — submit a reship request

  1. Email drblazeccli@gmail.com with your order number and what happened.
  2. Timing: within 7 days of the delivery scan for a package marked delivered but missing; within 30 days of the last tracking movement for a package that stopped moving. Please wait 72 hours after a delivery scan before writing — a genuinely surprising number of packages are with a neighbour, behind the gate, or scanned a day early.
  3. For a theft after delivery I'll ask you to confirm in writing that you did not receive it and that you've checked with anyone else at the address. If the carrier holds a signature for your delivery — which every order of $200 or more requires — that parcel was handed to a person at your address. I'll send you the signature record, and in that case a replacement needs a police report. On an order of $1,000 or more placed by an account that hasn't ordered here before, a police report is required rather than optional. That specific combination is the one people try, and asking for the report is how I keep this promise good for everyone else. On other orders I may still ask, and I'll tell you up front if so — either way, I'll never make you chase the carrier yourself.
  4. Resolution: I reship the same item if it's in stock. If it's sold out, you choose — a refund in full to your original payment method, or a substitute of equal or greater current market value.
  5. Turnaround: I respond within 2 business days. Carrier traces take the carrier 5–15 business days; I don't wait for the trace to close before reshipping if the picture is clear.

The limits

Two of them, and I'd rather say them plainly than bury them at the bottom:

  • One replacement or refund per order, and never more than what you actually paid for that order.
  • Two approved claims per customer in any rolling 12 months. After the second, Package Protection stops being offered on that account. Your orders still ship, still carry the Dr. Blaze Guarantee, and still carry the carrier's built-in protection — you just can't add this on top any more. That isn't aimed at you; it's the thing that keeps a promise funded by one person solvent for everybody else buying it.

What it doesn't cover

  • Change of mind, or any reason that is really a return — sealed product is final sale once shipped.
  • An incorrect or incomplete address supplied at checkout.
  • Packages refused at delivery, or returned to sender.
  • Packages redirected, held, released without signature, or forwarded at your request or through carrier delivery instructions you set up directly.
  • Any address change made after the order was placed.
  • Local pickup orders.
  • The value of anything above what you actually paid for the order.
  • Consequential losses of any kind — the ceiling is what you paid, and it is one replacement or refund per order.

Refunding the fee

Cancel before the order ships and the fee comes back in full with everything else. Once the order has shipped the fee has done what it was bought to do and isn't separately refundable.

The plain-English summary

Damaged or wrong item is free, always. Lost or stolen is where Package Protection earns its keep. It's offered on orders of $100 and up, it's my money behind it, it's optional, and if you'd rather not keep it, take it off — I'd rather you kept the money than felt pushed into it.
